Verification became a shared newsroom utility rather than a private brand claim.

CrossCheck France moved the Mission Years away from single-brand trust and toward shared verification infrastructure. Built for the 2017 French presidential election, the project asked newsrooms to collaborate on rumors, manipulated material, misleading images, and false claims moving through social platforms.

The important shift is institutional humility. No one masthead could solve the fake-news problem alone. The answer had to look like a network: common standards, partner newsrooms, public corrections, and a visible verification process. Trust became something coordinated, not simply asserted.

As an exhibit object, CrossCheck helps the chapter break out of logo culture. Its visual language is not a slogan on a poster. It is a project interface, a partner map, a verification queue, and a public record of claims tested under pressure.
