Skepticism, the central virtue of journalism, commodified into a product designed to fracture consensus reality. The mirror to Fox News' *Fair and Balanced*.

The campaign mechanics of Question More are unpacked in this chapter as a cable artifact. The annex entry covers what the campaign exists for.

RT launched in 2005 under the name Russia Today with a fairly traditional public-diplomacy mission: project a positive image of Russian culture, economics, and politics to a global audience. After the 2008 Russo-Georgian war, where the Kremlin judged it had lost the international PR battle, the network executed a calculated pivot. It rebranded to the bare acronym RT - to obscure its state origins - and repositioned not as a voice of Moscow but as a global, counter-hegemonic news source. The slogan Question More arrived in 2010.

The operational brilliance is the total subversion of a core journalistic virtue. Skepticism - the willingness to question official narratives and demand evidence - is fundamental to rigorous reporting. RT does not deploy skepticism, it commodifies doubt to fracture consensus reality. RT’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan described the network’s mission as breaking the information monopoly of Anglo-Saxon media, framing RT’s existence as ongoing information war against the whole Western world.

In 2017, confronted with US intelligence reports labeling RT a state-run propaganda machine that contributed to election interference, Simonyan offered a revealing defense: all intelligence agencies, including the CIA and FBI, view media as weapons. The argument collapses any distinction between independent adversarial journalism and state-directed information operations. If everyone is doing it, no one is. That is the structural payload of Question More.

The mirror with the chronological chapters is exact. Fox News’ Fair and Balanced invented a deficient mainstream and stood in the implied gap, claiming methodology. Question More invents a deficient mainstream and stands in the same gap, claiming nothing - only that the facts you have been given are suspect. After Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the EU banned RT broadcasts. The brand survives through alternative distribution and language-specific outlets. The slogan continues to do its work.
