Audio journalism positioned explicitly against synthetic narration - the human voice as the proof.

Mediahuis launches Luister into a market drowning in synthetic narration. Text-to-speech is everywhere. AI voices read the news to commuters in seventeen languages. The pitch for Luister is the opposite of efficiency: real people, real voices, real journalism. The voice itself becomes the trust signal.

The contradiction is the entire AI era compressed into one media organization. Mediahuis deploys generative tools internally - for transcription, translation, headline testing, summarization. The marketing pitch is the part of the pipeline that does not yet have a substitute: a human at a microphone, reading work a human reported. Everything upstream and downstream is being quietly automated.

This is the audio version of the human-made badge. The medium is doing the rhetorical work. A synthesized voice can recite the same script. The argument is not about the words - it is about the body that produced them. Luister sells the breath behind the sentence.
